S~P~A: Missions and Racial Reconciliation is a ministry of the Woman’s Mission Union of Virginias (WMUV). The impetus for S~P~A developed during a time of social and racial unrest with Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement. The formation of S~P~A by Dr. Valerie Carter Smith, WMUV’s Executive Director and Treasurer, was timely for not only contextually tackling racism, but also offering a safe space for all women, including women of color, to be honest about race and share their personal experiences.
The original S~P~A cohort consisted of 17 women from various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds who remained committed for six weeks. Each participant contributed to this devotional, giving careful thought to their topic. All selections are followed by a prayer featured in bold and a brief author biography. Ultimately, our hope is that you may find consolation and guidance as you read. We also pray that God bless you in your process of reflection, discovery, and work.
